I have been buying things needed for the convent since three decades- and I have shopped many other shops, but never found anything cheaper than what you find at Jerosa Co. I am happy that they have opened a bigger place to serve more customers. I have two sons and three daughters- and all have married now- and the only place I went to buy whatever is needed for their wedding ceremony was Jerosa company- I didn’t care other bridal shops who wanted to give me better deals- I am always happy with Jerosa co since decades- I have shopped this shop since John Rasquinha ran it- and now his son Ullas is at the helm- both dad and son have worked hard to take this company to greater heights. As long as the online transaction uses Secure Sockets Layer protocol – SSL (i.e. the url/website that you are using starts with https://), it does not matter whether one uses public wifi or private. SSL uses public key cryptography which is extreeeeeeeeeeeemly hard to break. But you have to ensure that the certificate being used by the browser for the transaction is valid. Chrome/IE normally warns you if it isn’t. It is another matter one has to be wary of using public internet kiosks to use secure transaction because those machines may have the malicious software installed such as key loggers, trojans etc. which can silently capture your bank account details, passwords etc. as you type. I personally don’t get concerned about using SSL-based websites from my smart phone to do banking whether I am using a public wifi or private. Also don’t be under the wrong impression that your private wifi is any more safe. If you google, there are many ways to hack your home wifi too. In fact most of the home routers have the default, factory set user name and password (which people are too lazy to change) which any man on the street can log in to and change the passphrase.

Coming to the point looking at all the comments posted here, that Animal Care Trust is involved with MCC in implementing this dog licence rule, I want to clarify my point- I have two Daschund dogs, and three stray dogs that I picked up when no one bothered to take care- and for the last three years I have taken care of these 3 stray dogs along with my other two- now that MCC is charging Rs 300 for each dog, do I have to pay for these 3 stray that I saved from their death on streets. If I have to pay, then let MCC and ACT reimburse my money for all the years that I took care of these three stray dogs. Oh well!

Numerous complaints have been written in various media on the reckless and possible drunken driving of these private buses that run from Mangalore to Udupi and vice versa, and also on the parking of trucks on highways and service roads – question is: What is the RTO doing about preventing such ghastly accidents or in ensuring truck and half lorry drivers do not park on the dark highways and service roads. Special Pay and Park Areas or Zones in each town from Mangalore to Kundapur must be constructed adjacent to highways for the benefit of those trucks and half lorries that pay TOLL anyway if using the highway.

I do not understand what is wrong with paying for a license or microchiping a dog. The bad circumstance of losing a dog. The licence number will in a small way help to find a pet. What is the harm in that. Rs 300 is not a big amount for the safety for a part of your family? I am not trying to put you down. You have the right to your opinion but please do try to look at things from the positive side, of which there are many. Can u imagine how good this rule would be for our pets. Vaccinated and hopefully neutered so your problem with strays will also be solved. Happier and merrier.

Yes there are pros and cons of any issue. A sum of 300 rupees won’t matter much to some and for some others it will be a big amount to shell out. News must be based on facts and not assumptions or opinions. Half the strays on the streets are the unwanted litter thrown away by the pet owners. They want their pet but not its litter. No effort is put into getting their pet neutered. The trend of abandoning pets is also on the rise. These abandoned ones too end up being stray animals. When we buy a vehicle licencing and registration is mandatory and no one complains about it. In case of vehicle theft, reporting it, tracing that vehicle and claiming ownership becomes easy. Some way if one loses their pet or pet gets stolen, don’t you think things are going to be a lot easier. If that is ok, why not this.

Mayor Kavitha needs to concentrate her mind on other serious civic issues than this not so important dog licence issue. First of all sincere thanks to Alfie for publishing the concerns of 1000s of pet dog owners in mangalore.Its a decision announced w/o any sense or rationale. All the pet dog owners are getting their dog vaccinated on time ,so the MCC to do it does not arise. There are also several people who have adopted stray pups and look after them . Its my earnest apeal to the MCC to call off the baseless idea to have license fee for dogs lest we all march to the MCC office in protest !!

Me being interested in everything regarding space… had a discussion with my friend who is an engineer. I discussed from a point of view of feasibility of capturing an asteroid and placing in the geostationary orbit was highly ambitious. My friend being an engineer calculated the weight of cable required to suspend the structure… and he came with a figure of 15million tons for a single cable. He concluded that the cable itself will snap under its own weight. And also how will anybody shift 15 millions tons of cable into space? The other thing is that a structure dangling from an asteroid placed in a geostationary will create drag and it will eventually slow down the asteroid’s velocity. If asteroid losses its velocity it will be pulled towards earth by gravity. And I believe that I don’t have to explain what will happen next.

Stupid gas station attendant. The gas station owner has to pay the damages. They usually empty the gas tank and flush it with gas. If he is lucky it may just be a minor problem. They need to have diesel pumps separate from gas pump. Gas station is clearly at fault. Sorry to hear this.

While it is a good thought to develop Tourism utilizing the Malpe Beach and the Padukere Beach, it is very vital for Mr. Pramod Madhwaraj to take a walk on the road leading from Udupi Bi-Pass to Malpe. For ages nothing is being done to widen or improve this main road – except for big talks on development and Tourism. We are saddened by the sudden demise of Fr.Patrick Rodrigues. May his soul rest in peace. An untiring soul who dedicated his life for others. But I am surprised about the so called comments made by Bishop Aloysius; like ‘ Nirvana’ and ‘Reincarnation ‘ as reported in the headline of the article. One fails to understand as how these words relate to Catholic teachings; in terms of doctrine or Bible . Comparing Christian life to Hinduism or Buddhism itself distorts the essence of it. While Hinduism or Buddhism are a philosophical way of life, and drawing analogy is like diluting Christ’s teachings in our own suitable way. While ‘Nirvana’ refers to Buddhist way of detaching oneself from the karma of worldly cycle of death and rebirth, ‘Reincarnation ‘ means soul taking rebirth into another body after one’s biological death as Hinduism mentions. Christians do not believe either of the above terms and nowhere the it finds mentioned church doctrine.

Dear Mayor, Its my long lived dream to see my place beautiful which is been over shadowed by the current so called real estate boom. The promises that you have made is just too hard to achieve although I wish and hope I am proven wrong. Unless proper infrastructure will be in place everything will be a waste of time and money. The corporator alone will not be able to carry out the duties and hence the responsibilities should be given to the citizens as well. Identify all the wards and put forth the criteria to award the best ward every six month. In this way people will be prompted to keep their area clean. The storm water drain should be cleaned every three months in order not to flood certain area and for the free flow of the water. Its very important to adopt greenery in order to get away with the water calamity. Road marking is very important to maintain the lane discipline and to avoid accidents. More traffic signs at road junctions should be installed. Proper footpath and pedestrian crossing places. It should be made mandatory to pedestrians to cross roads in designated crossing places. Or else spot fines should be imposed. If they fail to pay fine then they should be asked to do community service. The fines collected should be accounted and used for improving the roads department. More emphasis should be given to solar paneled street lights and automated timers should be set to on-off the lights. Parking spaces should be made available with proper parking lines. Round about should be installed where there is traffic congestion. Heavy vehicles should be allowed to travel only on the left lane and not allowed to take the speed lane. No stopping of buses unless on a designated bus stop. Very important as I have seen several accidents taken place because of the buses being abruptly stopped in the mid of the roads. No trucks should be allowed to park besides the highway especially on the kpt-nanthoor stretch which is causing jams. Designated truck stop over areas should be planned. Fines should be imposed on truck drivers not following the rules. More interlock area required in places besides the main roads which is usually seen with soil being flown around the main roads causing problems to the commuters as well spoiling the beauty of the city. So you thought that the newly minted monk chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, was only given to making blood-thirsty Muslim-baiting speeches. Well, his views documented in his writings (in Hindi), on women and Christians should also make you wonder at the BJP’s wisdom and commitment to hugely publicised schemes such as “beti bachao, beti padhao”. Consider the top five Yogi bites which are more medieval monk than modern leader: 1) On several documented occasions, Yogi Adityanath had accused Mother Teresa of being part of a conspiracy to “Christianise” India. The news agency PTI had reported on June 21, 2016, that he said “Teresa was part of a conspiracy to Christianise India. Christianisation has led to separatist movements in parts of North-East, including Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland.” This is the distilled wisdom of the Sangh because in 2015, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat had in a similar comment said Mother Teresa’s services to the poor were aimed at converting them to Christianity. 2) Adityanath’s worldview on women makes for interesting reading. He has written in Hindi that he believes women need male protection from birth to death and their energy/power (urja) should be regulated or controlled lest it become worthless and destructive. Only controlling women power will foster the birth and rearing of great men, he has said in his writings available on his website (www.yogiadityanath.in), mostly dating to 2014. He has repeatedly mentioned the Vedas as being the fount of wisdom in dealing with women and his views don’t seem to have moved an inch from that era as he vehemently opposed the women’s reservation Bill. 3) Adityanath went against the official party line and said “women do already have reservations in many areas. First analyse and assess the impact of this in gram sabhas, panchayats and local bodies. Assess and then decide whether women who are in active politics and public life like men… whether in this process they may not lose their importance and role as mothers, daughters and sisters”. Balm-like thoughts on working women from the CM of the country’s largest state. Alarmed? Wait. Brace yourself. Lots more. 4) Adityanath warns in his essay on “the inherent dangers in making women like men”. He quotes texts to say “if men acquire women-like qualities they become God but, when women acquire men-like qualities they become “rakshas” (demons)”. Serious thought must be given to these issues, writes Adityanath. Wonder what will happen to the women who have crossed the line and work in UP’s administration? Or the nominal women Adityanath has appointed to his cabinet? Adityanath perhaps is echoing Modi who came up with “despite being a woman” to describe Bangladesh’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, on June 9, 2015. 5) Adityanath abhors feminism and makes no bones about it. He writes “else the thoughtless storm of women freedom of the western world will drive them to an even more disastrous condition and it will hamper the creation and stability of the home and family and prevent the glorious rebuilding of the nation and motherland”. So now you know ladies. If you leave aside the open feral Muslim-baiting speeches, Adityanath is hardly a reassuring figure for UP’s women and Christians either. The larger question is that does such medieval monk-like thinking belong in the 21st century? Specially the mindset of an uber powerful leader of India’s biggest political state? Accusing Mother Teresa of converting gullible Hindus to Christianity, he said, “Mother Teresa was part of the conspiracy to Christianise India. Hindus were targeted in the name of doing service and then converted.” Adityanath, who has been an advocate of ghar wapsi, allegedly led a “purification” drive for conversion of Christians to Hinduism in 2005.Not to forget Church attacks in Karnataka. The decision to demonetise will cause grievous injury to the honest Indian who earns wages in cash. The dishonest black money hoarder will get away with a mere rap on the knuckles It is said that “money is an idea that inspires confidence”. At the stroke of the midnight hour, on November 9, 2016, the confidence of more than a billion Indians was destroyed. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had declared that more than 85 per cent of the value of money held in notes of Rs.500 and Rs.1,000 was worthless overnight. In one impetuous decision, the Prime Minister has shattered the faith and confidence that hundreds of millions of Indians had reposed in the Government of India to protect them and their money. More than 90 per cent of India’s workforce still earn their wages in cash. These consist of hundreds of millions of agriculture workers, construction workers and so on. While the number of bank branches in rural areas have nearly doubled since 2001, there are still more than 600 million Indians who live in a town or village with no bank. Cash is the bedrock of the lives of these people. Their daily subsistence depends on their cash being accepted as a medium of valid currency. They save their money in cash which, as it grows, is stored in denominations of Rs.500 and Rs.1,000 notes. To tarnish these as ‘black money’ and throw the lives of these hundreds of millions of poor people in disarray is a mammoth tragedy. The vast majority of Indians earn in cash, transact in cash and save in cash, all legitimately. It is the fundamental duty of a democratically elected government in any sovereign nation to protect the rights and livelihood of its citizens. The recent decision by the Prime Minister is a travesty of this fundamental duty. Demonetisation is substance without success. Repeated denial of RTI query from both PMO and RBI Governor proves its failure. Prior to demonetisation outlawing Central government employees from investigation agency without government approval is another blunder. Excluding the political parties from Foreign funding and RTI act is the continuation of black money by the political elite.Open Hundi policy during demonetisation adopted by the government is just open space practice hawala by the temples. PMO nor RBI Governor know what is the success of entire demonetisation process. None of the office is willing to take open questionnaire in the neutral venue from International media or Indian mass media is its testimony. I challenge Anil Bokil to prove $135 billion outstanding debt of public sector banks will be paid by the corporate world? Probably this is not the right place to say what I wanted to say, but nevertheless let me see if I can get it out of my system: The most important pre-marital screening test that needs to be carried out in our society is to identify the real intent behind the marriage (everything else is secondary). When you marry someone you have to establish whether the person you are marrying really wants to get married or is it because she is getting old and can no longer rely on her parents as they are also getting old. Most men miss out on this crucial point and as a consequence suffer miserably. When it comes to marriages (especially the Catholic marriages) the Indian society currently is in a state of dangerous flux where the old orthodox traditions combined with the modern western view of materialism has created a dangerous mix of Molotov cocktail which innocuously disguises itself through the initial days of the marriage but then suddenly explodes. The fundamental reason behind this is due to the various people involved in this circus(called marriage) who hope for totally unrealistic expectations out of the union. Being the Indian society for what it is, there are people ranging from the bride and groom themselves all the way to the extended family members from both sides. For the girl’s side it’s more about the pomposity and lavishness of the wedding itself as opposed to focussing on what lies beyond it. They somehow assume that is man’s headache to worry about those things after the wedding. It may have been true 50 years ago but not anymore. Get this fact inside your skull at the earliest. There is more to life than 3-tier wedding cake, corsage, boutonniere, page boy, flower girls, and cocktail parties. If you want to have a content married life then utmost attention should be paid to these disguised expectations which people have on their minds even before the whole wedding-spectacle begins. Marriage is not a Disney land fairy tale, with ivory castles and flying ponies. Increasingly our society is aping the western materialistic way of thinking. The West has heavily influenced them to develop a sense of entitlement within them to think that others (especially their husbands) owe them a living while they themselves take no responsibility for their actions or failures or unpreparedness. The fault squarely lies with the parents. These self-righteous and clueless parents, without giving it a second thought, bring up their children in such an irresponsible manner that the child does not really know what the practical life means. Their children are least prepared for a life on their own. But the parents think they deserve an award from the society thinking that since they have provided everything their children have asked for, they are the best parents in the world. Nothing could be further from the truth. When these children eventually grow up, the parents think they have done their duty (in reality they have only ruined them by not preparing them for the real world) and then start their venture to find a scapegoat to tie to their daughter’s neck. That child (now grown up – but only in flesh) once getting married, expects similar ivory tower treatment from their spouse. She thinks that is what she deserves and it’s their husband’s job to provide it. If he tries to bring them into line (by talking common sense), then with the help of their ‘liberal’ relatives and friends begin to evaluate their ‘options’ (read weapons). In India the laws are so biased towards women that even a mere allegation of torture is enough to get the husband arrested without bail. Even if there was no substance to the case it takes years to clear one’s name. But by the end of it when the entire case has been quashed, there is no provision under the law to hold the accuser to account for abusing the system. All these things amount to increasing number of broken marriages in our society. In the Western society, both man and woman are equal when it comes to the law, so there is no room for such exploitation. If people don’t get along then (most of the times) they just go through the quick legal process and go separate ways. But Indian society is a special basket case. The girls who have been brought up in the most feckless manner try to get the best of both worlds -on one hand they want the freedom and choice that comes readily available in the Western society but at the same time, when things don’t go as per their expectation in marriage, they take resort in the broken legal system in India to abuse it to no end. They pay no special attention towards their career before marriage, instead enjoy all their time and money on enjoyment – shopping malls, Bollywood, holidays and what not. But then when the same comforts get hard to come by after the marriage, their husband suddenly becomes the punching bag. He turns into everyone’s enemy. He becomes the root cause of their unhappiness. The fundamental problem here (i.e. in Indian society) is that most parents bring up their daughters with the mindset that it is husband’s job to provide everything after the marriage. That’s where the conflicts arise. As a consequence those wives don’t want to take responsibilities to their own failures and weaknesses. This is the reason marriages (especially in big cities) are breaking down. There is another real reason why this happens time and again in our society. It’s because of the way the marriages happen. I must agree the things are improving now (albeit slowly) but most of the times alliances happen in the least conducive way possible. There is no practical way you can fully understand the person you are marrying. To begin with, the boy is settled in a distant place due to his job and hardly finds enough time to dedicate into finding the right partner. Due to your culture (and religion) you are consciously/subconsciously are somehow forced to find a life partner from your own community. So you strive hard to find someone, who more often than not happens to live in a distant place, perhaps another country. You hardly get any time and opportunity between your job to dedicate towards this. You come across someone who you think could be a potential candidate. And this is where the problem begins. You meet them once and for some reason you are not so sure about it in the first meeting. You have doubts inside your head that you want to clarify before you go to the next level. There are some obvious good things that you have found in that person but you are concerned about what’s not so visible. Indian society still follows orthodoxy when it comes to alliances therefore the second time you try to meet that same person to find out more, they assume you have already liked the person. If you meet for the second time and then don’t follow it through, then you will be condemned as a deserter. Secondly, even if you go ahead with the proposal, there is hardly anything that really comes to the surface (i.e. flaws) because if you ask any involved questions (to clarify your doubts) then you are looked at as being someone uncouth and arrogant. There is no practical way in our society to fully understand the person. The funny thing is you only get one chance to go through all this and you have to get it right and hope your stars assure you that elusive happiness. If this venture fails then the same society looks at you as a failure. All said and done, there are a few things you can watch out for before you enter into this phase of life called getting marriage. You should know how to separate the wheat from the chaff. It can be a difficult thing to do but sooner you do it, less worries for you later. The things to watch out for are: 1. Look at the parents. Their outward look, talk, experiences etc. tells you what you need to know, especially how they brought up their children etc. Pay attention to how much they dedicated resources and commitment towards their children’s upbringing/education. Once you analyse these things you will get a picture. 2. Women fight hard these days for equal rights, so you have to make sure that they also understand that the responsibility towards your eventual family also is equal between partners, it is just not husband’s alone. This wily thinking of resorting to old patriarchal Indian system when it comes to responsibility while taking shelter under the modern Western philosophy of equality when it comes to personal rights (equality) is a real trap for Indian men. Pay special attention here. 3. Watch out for those types whole life revolves around watching Bollywood, soap operas, over obsession with social media, compulsive mall shopping, and frequent holidays. These are the same people who would have attended the college for ‘fun’, not to become something in life. Stay clear of those. 4. Do not fall for the looks. If beauty is what you are after, go on a Europe trip and visit the brothels. They are quite hygienic, I am reliably told. Beauty lasts only for a couple of weeks after the wedding. After that it’s totally inconsequential to your marriage. In fact it becomes a burden on you. Watch out for this!!!!! 5. If your fiancée is far too much obsessed with the ‘big day’, be very careful. Danger lies ahead. You are better off dumping her even if causes a short term turmoil in your family. 6. Pay special attention to whether the person you are intending to marry (and her family) have thirst for knowledge, intellectual curiosity and concerns about worldly matters. The woman you marry may have body of a 25 year old but if she has a mind of a 12 year old then you might as well get a pet. 7. Always try to find out if your fiancée really wants to marry you, or is she doing it because she couldn’t find a better one. Is she marrying you because of you or because of your money or status? Most of the marriages take place out of desperation. Don’t fall into that trap. There is nothing big to lose in waiting for a few more years to get married. If the person you married did not really like you (to begin with) then that marriage is doomed to fail. 8. Men should always remember, when you decide to get married (in India), as far as the laws are concerned, the odds are against you. If your marriage works out as planned consider yourself lucky. But if it fails, then the woman has all the legal advantage no matter how right or wrong she is. Pay special attention to this aspect. Even if there is not a single evidence of wrongdoing against you, you can still end up destitute and penniless. Play your cards wisely. Increasing number of women in India have started using this legal weapon to get what they want. You have nothing in your favour. 9. Lastly, there is no compulsion that you should get married. If you don’t want to die alone, then marriage is not the only option. Think of the alternatives. Until then enjoy your life while doing good to others. By the way I am not painting a broad brush here to point finger at every woman in India but increasing number of women in India (especially those from the affluent background, brought up in the cities, who go pubbing and clubbing every weekend) have learnt the tricks of the trade called marriage. Pay special attention.

Finger licking taste-right-but every time I ate chicken and rice item from this place I had to run three or four times to the toilet at night and during wee hours. MCC should check hygienic conditions of food establishments in Mangaluru–if you look at some of the kitchens of restaurants/fast food etc- they are not hygienic-just filthy. I love veg- It’s Finger Licking Taste! – because I am a vegetarian, but I am really overwhelmed that finally a problem that we the residents on Britto Lane were facing due to the customers vehicles of MFC parked wherever they wanted, thereby creating hassles to others. Just a handful of RTO policemen manning cross road junctions when they can catch people riding triple on motorcycles, riding in no entry, over-speeding buses, open half lorries ferrying workers like sardines, private minis – not painted yellow and without school boards or signs ferrying school children, and so many other road instances that can get a good income to the RTO – IF ONLY THEY CAN INSTALL TRAFFIC LIGHTS AND SPEED BREAKERS EVERY WHERE!

As the BJP romps home with more than 300 seats in a 403-member UP assembly after two decades, the crux of the UP election is that Modi’s opponents could not match him in weaving a broader political narrative around development. While Modi communalised his development narrative, there was no secular alternative. The SP, Congress and BSP displayed a conspicuous lack of imagination and creativity in challenging Modi’s message and this finally led to their downfall. In this context, the BJP was seen by a major section of the state’s Hindu voters as the only viable option. For all its talk about developmental politics and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “sabka saath sabka vikas”, it seems that the BJP is not averse to lean on the tried and tested, but regressive and divisive, path of communal polarisation. This is unfortunate and unacceptable. It is unfortunate because the BJP, which runs the government at the Centre, has an advantage to set the discourse, and it is unacceptable because elections in the most populous state in India should be held without the spectre of communalisation. The BJP, as is expected of other parties, should set an example by shunning disruptive politics. There are many reasons why BJP has swept Uttar Pradesh. There is the popularity of prime minister Narendra Modi, the management of president Amit Shah, the anti-incumbency against the Samajwadi Party, there is Hindutva and the division of Muslim votes, there’s the positive ratings for demonetisation. But the most important reason why the BJP has won UP is caste. Yes there is Hindutva, but the BJP has benefited less from polarisation and more from the split of Muslim votes. The Congress alliance gave the impression that SP-Congress would get a bulk of Yadav and Muslim votes, further alienating any non-Yadav OBCs or upper castes who were thinking of voting SP for the sake of Akhilesh Yadav. None of this is to take away from Modi’s popularity or Amit Shah’s strategies. It’s not one or the other, it’s a combination of factors. The most important of these was caste. Well said – things don’t change because constructing poor and bad roads is a guarantee for continuous business for those corrupt contractors and PWD and Municipal people in authority, and as well for the Minister In-charge for the Development of Mangalore. Same state – road to Udupi Railway Station – full of pot holes and no one to care about although our Minster and In-charge of everything, Mr.Pramod Madhwaraj only talks and hardly ever walks to check the roads in and around Udupi. No use complaining or even supporting the politicians or the government – they are all the same – just collect taxes for paying fat salaries to admin staff in all offices of Municipality and PWD, who in turn do nothing substantial.

Open urinating by those irresponsible and anti-social men should also be addressed and dealt with firmly by the law. Men use the Government School wall opposite to the Udupi Service Bus Stand, to openly urinate, and there is nothing being done about this rather disgusting issue. Although there are paid toilets at the Service Bus Stand, shopkeepers and passerbys openly urinate on the wall. Ts here is a large PLASTIC FREE ZONE sign installed at this place – which must be changed to A WARNING ON URINATING both in Kannada and English to the general public. There is a Police Station right in the vicinity, but those guys do nothing to stop people from urinating, and simply while away their time talking and taking fat salaries from the government. I believe they expect someone to register an FIR – as per their norms!

Trucks parked on daily basis and as well overnight on our badly lit or dark highways are cause for many accidents and deaths. The RTO must organize a HIGHWAY PATROL, whereby it will not allow any truck to be parked on the side on the Highway and Service Roads on all days. Special well-lit areas, preferably beside Petrol Stations must be facilitated for parking of long-haul trucks overnight or on a daily basis for a fee. The parking of local trucks, half-lorries, tempos, taxis, etc. on the Service Roads and Highways must be banned completely. The owners should park near their homes – but definitely not on public roads. Especially those HP and BP tankers and trucks that are seen parked everywhere and anywhere. I hope the government will take appropriate action. The government should be pro-active in all public matters – they are one of the reasons for such road accidents.

Thereafter, the roads, the bi-lanes, the drainage, the sewerage, the water pipes, the electricity, the traffic lights, the pedestrian crossings, the playgrounds, the gardens, the supermarket areas, the prayer areas, the school areas, and everything in-between are charted out on drawings, worked on actual future population v/s area, and then all the above jobs are executed, much before even one single housing or commercial unit is given permission to build The USA, Kuwait, and the entire Gulf are some of such countries. In India it is just the opposite – first, come the hutments, then the hawkers, then shanty villages, then shanty towns, then comes the Municipality, and then everybody is on the TAKE, then come the Complaints. Town Planners are not in the picture at all. Development in India means concrete jungles that fetch free and huge revenue to the government from builders. There’s not even a pedestrian crossing for ordinary citizens leave alone a public bench or a park!

You referred to ‘women’s march’. Do you know anything about Linda sarsour, one of the organizers of this march? Since you are such a champion of women’s right, I was surprised to see no mention of triple talaaq or discussions around Uniform Civil code in India. Why did you skip these topics? It is important to realize that, a) Every human being , high or low needs graces from God b) It is important to ask for graces as we have been given the right to make our own choices( Deut 11:26-28 ). We are incapable of sustaining against Satan on our own. c) Mere lectures do not change people. We can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink. It has become vital to pray for graces as many catholic families do not find time to say family prayers I humbly urge the church to say prayer of graces before or during the Mass. This will make Mass more lively and meaningful. I give here below my favourite prayer for graces which is as follows, Jesus gives us true contrition for our sins, grace to forgive , grace to pray for our enemies and leadership Grant us the grace to obey all the commandments, save us from all occasions of sin, temptations, snares of the evil one, wicked people and creatures, wrong behaviour and shame. Jesus give us grace to come to you when we are weary and tired, surrender all our worries to you and grant us hope, patience and peace Lord fill us with your Holy Spirit and grant us gifts of wisdom, understanding, knowledge, discernment,faith,prayer, hope , love ,peace , joy,gentleness,self control, patience, MODESTY, CHASTITY AND FAITHFULNESS Jesus give us the grace to understand, interpret bible properly and save us from blasphemy, false prophesy and self glorification. Lord say a word and our souls shall be healed and we shall receive perpetual health of body, mind, good health and a holy death. Lord send forth The Holy Spirit that he will teach us all things and remind us of all that you Have said to us., Lord say a word and our minds shall be governed by the Holy Spirit.(Romans 8:6) Regards

The missing money is public money and it should be properly investigated and accounted for. Mangalore Diocese is a very rich Diocese and most of the faithfuls do not know how much assets the Diocese owns. The religious institutions, though they are tax exempt entities, should be required to file a tax returns with Income Tax authorities disclosing the annual income and expenditure in the public interest. There should be an accountability, transparency, checks & balances. It is needed in a democratic country. We are required to contribute 1/10th of our earnings to God. At the same time we deserve to know what happens to the money we have donated to “GOD” It is a simple logic of accountability. What I hear that some of the institutions are in guise of non-profit make hefty profits by way of capitation fee, hall rentals, running businesses and making other investments. Non-profit entities should be barred from investing in stock market and high risk investments.
