    A strange article, and very confusing, yet on facts. There are two distinct halves of the article, First an excellent write up of what parents should and should not do. Very realistic indeed. The second one seems to be an advertisement or endorsement of a product. That is a little strange because in the previous paragraph author send it is better not to control. Yet suggests using SPY-ware. As a parent, my question is “What do you do after finding something using spy-ware”? Once you see something, you have to prevent and you try to ‘politely tell’ or “angrily yell” Kid agrees but returns to the same activity a few days later. Any further hint or nudge could be misconstrued as controlling. So there is no win-win situation unless children ‘educate’ themselves to maintain the sanity at home and in their won life

      It’s like rearranging the deck chairs on the sinking Titanic. SBI bailout may buy a couple of years but the poison will still remain in the banking sector. Might delay the inevitable by a little more. It’s like cancer cells. Until the government brings in a stringent criminal law to imprison those convicted under the financial misconduct for at least 25 years (i.e. the “chakki peesing” punishment) Indian economy hasn’t got a bat’s chance in hell of prospering. PMC’s Joy Thomas, PNB Shetty, Rana Kapoor et. al. should be sent away for at least 25 years. Then we may have some hope. In fact it’s the punishment of that kind that has maintained the reputation in the American financial system. But in India we have the English/Common law system but with the worst of both worlds where the accused gets more rights than those affected. And the never ending system of appeals pulls wool over everyone’s eyes. Why hasn’t Modi figured out about this? If there are 2 people who I want to point a finger at, then it is MMS and Chidambaram. Modi comes a distance 3rd. In fact if it were personally up to me, I would **** both MMS and PC with their own mundaas and lungi publicly. I still struggle to fathom with what decency they are criticising the current government about the current banking crisis when they were the chief architects.

    Just for the record, the ongoing Yes Bank saga is yet another fruit from the UPA era which despite everyone being aware it, the BJP government did nothing in the last 6 years. All the key people such as Raghuram Rajan, Urjit Patel, Bhandary knew about this but our dear leader Modi-G couldn’t care less, instead he replaced them all with stooges. Now let the BJP government deal with the mess somebody else had created. Selling tea may make someone an able leader but that does not automatically make him an expert on everything. A good leader listens. The economy is collapsing in front of our eyes, banks are on life support, stock market is crashing. Only low oil price is keeping a lid on the simmering turmoil. Now some idiot close to him will advice him to raid the bank lockers. And then you watch the fun unfolding in front of your eyes. Ever since BJP came to power Modi has gone on a spending binge using borrowed money (mudra yojana etc.). He was effectively doing banks’ job without employing due diligence. It’s easy to throw away somebody else’s money. Banks have a well-established process while ascertaining the creditworthiness of the borrower but UPA used shoulder-twisting techniques to lend to their cronies while Modi by-passed the system altogether. Now the taxpayer is ****ed. The writing is almost on the wall, he will be forced to turn himself into Erdogan or a Mussolini. You can not rule a country of 1.2 billion when the system is crashing. Sad to see it because in other areas of administration he has done a commendable job. I am not questioning his intentions – I am sure he cares about the poor people but so does everyone else. But when there is no money, from where are you going to help the poor? On one hand he wants digital economy (cash ban) and at the same time people can not get to their money due to the banks collapsing. Why is he not getting the point? A little bit of common sense and economic knowledge would have helped but he and those close to him are too stubborn to listen. Yathaa raaja, thathaa prajaa. Now sit back and enjoy.

    Read the below 10 times… There are no “real” relations in life apart from the blood relations. Everything else is a social construct powered by the illusion a few body-chemicals create in the mind. From evolution standpoint men are pigs and women are weak, so in order to tame the former and protect the latter, the institution of marriage was created by the society. As a precursor to marriage, society felt it convenient to allow a phase called “relationship”. Do not read too much into it more than what it truly is. All this soulmate, lover etc. is absolute bull. If love truly existed people would never fight after they got married. Existentially speaking, marriage and relationships are a meaningless fad. All that the existence/nature cares about is the continuation of the species and for that it creates attraction between the 2 genders. The process of reproduction is as ugly as sin but this attraction that the nature creates between opposite sexes transcends all of that. The nature (i.e. the unconscious mind) is stronger manifolds compared to our conscious mind and hence we succumb to our bodily urges. All nature cares about is the meeting of the seed with the ovum. And that meeting is what ultimately matters to the nature. Everything else, as I said, is a social drama. If physical beauty really mattered, women wouldn’t begin to lose their physical charm as they grew old. There was no make up necessary. The point is, the external beauty in a woman was conferred by nature only with the purpose of attracting the male for the sake of reproduction. There is no other reason. Unfortunately some people have monetised their beauty to become models and are seeking attention from the public. I would go one step further and claim that even blood relations are meaningless. Blood relations are only a consequence/side-effect connected with the implementation detail of your coming into existence. We all had to “arrive” but we couldn’t magically appear out of nowhere, therefore nature chose 2 individuals to come together so you could manifest. Moral of the story is you are on your own, you have come for a reason and you have to pursue your own destiny in this world. You may cherish the relationships you will find around you but never get attached to them because detachment causes misery. Have a lovely weekend.

    When India’s road infrastructure and the fellow-drivers’ road discipline is all but wanting, do we need to encourage such Formula One style stunts every fortnight? Aren’t you putting more lives at risk? I totally understand the desperation in trying to get the urgent medical care to the patient in ICU but we have to think of other alternatives such as air ambulance. For the state as a whole, it won’t cost much and I am sure a few philanthropists from our country will be happy to chip in towards this noble cause.

    Srinivas Gowda may be a good prospect at the kambala but it will be another story at the running track. No doubt, Srinivas is well built but his transformation to become a top sprinter may take ages. Adaption to running with shoes will be the key to succeed. As soon as he manages that Srinivas can be a good bet. There is also an urgent need for a sports psychologist to tune his brain into track running just as he says bye to his favourite kambala. He is no spring chicken anymore and one is unsure if the entire exercise will be fruitful. Probably, they should train many like Srinivas in one go so that at least a few turn out to be good. One can only wish ‘good luck’ Srinivas.

    I am reasonably confident on his own (i.e. without the buffaloes) Mr.Gowda will not be able to win against Bolt. My bet is he will need his buffaloes on the Olympics track in order to beat Bolt but that will cause inconvenience to other athletes on the track including Bolt. So, in order to have a level playing field, what I suggest is that instead of Buffaloes, they should set a couple of hungry tigers chasing after these sprinters. That would make them cover 100 meters in under 8 seconds. Ask any psychologists worth their salts if you do not believe me. When it comes to survival, humans can break any records.

    If we take Mangalore as an example, it is not the same city which we saw when we were growing up as children in late 70s and early 80s.       The rule is draconian for the majority of the NRIs while only a few smart NRI businessmen abuse the “NRI definition” to escape taxes. What the government as part of the budget last week should have done instead was to make the new 120-days rule applicable to only those NRIs who do not live/work in one foreign country for at least 182 days in a year, instead use the “country-hopping” trick to spend a couple of months every year in each country where they have long term residency visas, while living most of the year in India to escape the tax regime in any country. That would have been a sensible approach. Implementation of my suggestion would be difficult but they could have started off with the self-declaration from the NRIs every year and the IT auditing a few random ones. For the sins of the few, the vast innocent majority shouldn’t suffer. That’s my view but the governments use one fell swoop to entirely shut the loophole without any due diligence.

    Thrice bitten thrice fooled!! When you know very well (with your own experience) that the super markets cheat, why did you not check right at the counter on 20th Jan. Of course they try all tricks to lure customers to come and do the shopping. And many gullible customers fall prey. Although they have announced discount prices on many commodities, it is possible that they did not update in the billing section. So, it is advisable not to rush to shopping on the day of big discount sale. Wait for a day to stabilize the pricing and other things.

I am not the kind that reads things from some books written centuries ago and regurgitates it here just to prove a point. Secondly, I do not care about this statue that is the bone of contention – frankly I could not care any less, be it about Jesus’ statue or lord Rama’s. Nor do I care about the RSS hooligans because nature has a balancing force so in the end everyone gives account for their actions. There is no escape. If there was no balancing force, we would have destroyed ourselves long time ago. Now, let me answer your various points using my own life experiences -I hope I won’t digress too much in the process but only when I paint a broader picture the point becomes clearer as to why I appear to be so radical when I express my views. The problem with the church today is that it has become too arrogant. It has been conveniently hiding all the shameful episodes of its past, be it the inquisition or forceful conversions right through the middle ages in Europe all the way into Portuguese rule in Goa but an average Christian in India is blissfully unware of these things because the church has gone the extra mile in keeping the people ignorant. You intentionally do not want people to learn the truth and know their history, while at the same time you claim that my assertion that religion and god being one of the biggest reasons of countless deaths in this world as my “opinion”. All I can say is reading 100 books helps more than reading just one book. While the indoctrination and the conditioning in Muslim community for example happens blatantly under the threat of throat-slitting, the Christian style is much more clandestine, subtle and happens in disguise. There is an air of suaveness to it. They use guilt, morality and punishment of eternal hell, brimstone etc. as their weapon to fool the gullible public. This indoctrination starts right in the childhood. You guilt the parents into sending their innocent children to Sunday school, catechism at the age of 6 because you truly know that the age of 6 to 10 is the only age to condition the mind of a human being. Once the child becomes a teenager he/she starts to ask questions and that age is not suitable for your grand plans. Sub-conscious mind is dominant up to the age of 10 and it acts like a sponge to absorb any junk that is fed into it, such as heaven, hell, eternal damnation etc. And that is your cunning business plan. Have you seen after life, eternal hell or experienced it before you teach it to others? If you have not, what right do you have to preach it to others especially when that indoctrination plays a dominant role in becoming a part of someone’s character/personality formation later on? It took me several years of my adult life to conclude that what I was taught in the Church through those Sunday schools and catechism was pure garbage. Like I said anything that’s imprinted in the subconscious is hard to get rid of. In fact this is what I say to my sister when she makes my nephews attend those Sunday schools – Satya Nadella, Sundar Pichai, Raghuram Rajan, Aravind Subramniam did not attend Sunday school nor catechism yet they turned out to be alright in the end. Do tell me what’s lacking in their lives that is brimming with abundance in those who have gone through these Sunday schools? Not only did those catechisms not help me, instead I wasted so much of my crucial time, which I could have spent on better things to do, to help me turn into a better human being. I remember very well from my childhood about all these coordinated programs/seminars in my church to fill my mind with junk as if I was the church’s property. I was told our god was the only true god while others worship idols. We are “believers” while others are “non-believers”. Just look at the terminology being employed. Every attempt was made to an extent that I was subconsciously forced to hate people from other religions. That said, what I underwent in the church and what I was experiencing in my daily life outside with other communities was the polar opposite. My Hindu neighbours were showing me (and my family) nothing but love and affection. “Bale parbule, kulle parbule, unas malpuvare, soukyana”. And that is where you witness god-phenomenon, not in those Sunday schools. Most of my years were happily spent in Shivalli Brahmins and GSB households. I did my primary schooling in a Hindu school and they were treating me like some sort of a royalty. I blissfully assimilated with everyone and there were people from Brahmin caste, GSB, Muslims, scheduled castes etc. and not once did I get a feeling that I was treated badly just because I was not a Hindu. I have eaten at Krishna Mata, Laxmi Venkatesh temple, Venkataramana temple, Dharmastala, Shringeri, various Hindu car festivals and those experiences have made my life richer. The point is, when I was part of the church against my wish (children do not have a say on anything in India, do they?), an indirect attempt was made (in a subtle manner) to make me hate people from other communities. To give an anecdotal evidence, once I, along with my Hindu friends, had attended a local Hindu festival (Jaathra) and the nun head mistress of my high school got wind of it and she made my life miserable for having attended that event as if this nun was the custodian of my life. At that time I was helpless because all these religious people were psychologically controlling me. And now I see this as nothing but a pogrom in a clandestine way so I remained an obedient sheep for the rest of my life. Fast forward it to today – today I can see the same priests and nuns visit and attend religious events from other religions (this is a good development by the way) but my question is why did they not have that foresight a few decades ago when I was way ahead of the times? Don’t get me wrong, Christian missionaries have contributed immensely to the Indian society without looking at caste or creed, especially in the field of health and education but what I would like to question is the real motive behind it all. Is it to propagate faith? On one hand you are asking how many conversions are taking place but on the other you started this topic using the text “Indian Christians have the fundamental right to preach and propagate their faith.” Are you not contradicting yourself? Can’t one do good work without having any intention behind it? Let me say a few words about the church in general – Despite finding itself in a cornered position from time to time when they are check-mated about various scandals in the church or when their tall claims are conclusively disproven by Science, what I have found is that the key people in Catholicism have an ingenious gift to cover those up and pretend as if nothing has happened (“there is nothing to see here folks. Just move one..”). History has clearly documented the scandals in the church right from the beginning through the middle ages (especially the role it was playing in meddling in political affairs, the wars instigated, the innocents burnt at the stake) but how many Christians in India today are aware of those? If they really come to know what was taking place they would shun their faith overnight. Has any of the clergy ever attempted to talk about such scandals in their Sunday sermons? If you do not acknowledge your past then do not be surprised when one day you find your house becomes empty. Bible mentions about resurrection, ascension into heaven etc. Every priest today says those were the historically accurate facts. There is even mention of ascension of body with the soul. Church hasn’t yet got the decency to admit that those were only metaphorical events. The conventional knowledge when the bible was written was that earth was flat, hence they had thought heavens are above (up in the sky) why hell is below hence the biblical writers got carried away with the “ascension of the body with the soul” and the sheep today truly believe that to be the case. Today I do not care about the accuracy of that event but when I was force-fed that when I was a child, it created a conflict in my mind when science was teaching me earth was round. And took me well into my adulthood to realise that biblical story was totally wrong. The problem was when the mind of a child is fed with 2 contradictory ideas, the one that’s forced down under the threat of hell and eternal damnation is the one which the child accepts. And that child remains confused forever because subconscious mind is sealed. Now let me come to the cover-ups in the church. There have been so many cases of child abuse, paedophilia in the Church in the last few decades and the Popes were conveniently looking the other way whenever those incidents were reported because the church had so much of clout back then. It’s unsurprising that most of the people in the West (whose ancestors were devout Christians for centuries) have shunned their faith today because the problem is Church does one thing best and that’s the cover ups. It’s just that you people have kept your sheep in India ignorant. And with your periodic dosage of guilt inducement every Sunday, along with the promise of eternal hell and gnashing of teeth you have turned them into schizophrenics. The whole catholic community has become mental patients. And with this new trend of charismatic retreat centers in Potta, Mulki, and big cities this paranoia is now on steroids. Catholics today are too afraid to think or to ask questions because post-death fires of hell keeps them in check and that serves your purpose well. When a person dies, the body decays no doubt. What we know as pain is a physical phenomenon. So Just curious, what exactly suffers in those fires of hell you keep repeating every Sunday when the body has disappeared? Here is what I have to say over the whole matter of religion and god – I do not say there is no god. My intellect says there is no god but my experience says there is likely to be. When there is a conflict between mind and heart I settle with the latter but that is not to say I just believe in all this stupid belief and faith to convince me of the things that I do not understand. Instead I would like to explore it through my own experiences in life. For that I do not need a middle man called religion or a priest. Life is self-exploratory. Religions and priests should not assume that only they have the divine right to guide people in their spiritual journey. Neither of us are superior, or inferior. That said we are not equal either because we are all unique individuals who have to pursue our own destiny. Religion may have played a role in the past but it has become too much of a corrupt and divisive force for me to use it as a tool to help me purse my destiny today. It has become too political. Having said all that I am not here to say we should banish religion outright. But what I want to see is radical reforms. Instead of indoctrination I want to see an atmosphere under the umbrella called religion where people can freely express and explore themselves without the fear of any dogma, faith or belief system. They should be allowed to ask questions instead of silly beliefs being rammed deep down their throats. I want the celibacy for priests to end so we can avoid all the scandals in the church whether it is paedophilia or sexual crimes. And I also want the church to come out clean about its crooked past, all its historic crimes. But we both know that’s not going to happen, is it? But nothing wrong in expressing my views, is there? Religion should be something that blossoms in people’s hearts the grace of which should ooze out and be visible to others. Instead what we are seeing is exactly the opposite. All we see is pointless exhibitionism in the outside world while people’s hearts are empty. Churches have turned into places that wield a lot of material wealth which is clearly visible. We see so many financial scandals and the priests are in the middle of it but they want to be infallible. I am not making these things up instead I am writing what I am seeing happening in our churches these days. At this ending stage of my rather long response, I would like to digress a bit and would like to bring up this unnatural death of this young priest in a church in the Diocese of Udupi only a few months ago. You appear to be a priest, so do tell me, what has happened to that case? Has it been covered up? If you are a fellow-priest have you raised your voice to demand justice? Instead of repeating myself, do read my observations which I had posted as a comment in another new article on this site. Please do let me know what you think of it. Using that as an episode, I would like to see how exactly what you believe in as a priest fits into the overall scaffolding called the Christianity. If there is one thing I still cling on to when it comes to my “faith”, it’s love and concern towards my fellow human being, so I believe I am not being unjust when I bring up this matter of the suspicious death of the priest. The Christians of northern side of India were afraid to conduct the Christmas program, thus the Catholic Bishop had to make special appeal to the Home Minister Rajnath Singh in 2018 for the special protection of the Christians of India. Finally as Mr. U.T. Khadher has clearly stated, the Hindus can build Temples in the Christian and Muslim countries, but the Christians can’t build a statue of JESUS CHRIST in India. This is the real color of the RSS rulers. Through the CAA, they wanted to oppress the Muslims first, then the Christians. The whole plan is foiled and the Modi-Amith Shah tricks are totally crashed.

Now the experts hoping for him to come to the rescue is like expecting the undertaker to resuscitate the dying patient in the ICU. Modi-G has intentionally kept stooges at the key locations so he can get his way of providing the pork-barrel to the electorate by using public/taxpayers’ money. While I have all the appreciation for this other policies, when it comes to economy & finance the central BJP government is no better than some of the leftists governments elsewhere, who just borrow forever in order to stay in power. He clearly does not understand money nor the concept of economics. But one thing I can guarantee you, by the end of his term, through his reckless monetary experiments, he will have gained enough experience in the field of finance that he will be invited to Oxford and Yale to deliver lectures. Coming back to the present, I expect the Indian economy to turn down hard towards the end of this year. We will have shocks in the banking sector as well as the stock market while inflation will creep up. The incompetent Sitaraman will be “promoted” to a lesser ministry so Modi-G can wash his hands off the episode. The governments as usual will not take any responsibility for their failures, instead will commit more blunders… just like those incompetent doctors during the medieval times who thought bleeding the patient was the only way to save him and when the patient died in the end, they would claim the reason for death was that the patient was not bled fast enough. On one hand, with his demonetisation and the push for digital money he is forcing people to go cashless and on the other hand people can not get to their money because of the failing banks. So what kind of message is he trying to send to the population? Does he expect people to abandon the Rupee and hoard gold? With the demonetisation, if he had made an example out of a couple of high profile corrupt politicians perhaps he would have maintained some credibility but not one person has gone to jail till date. So we can safely surmise that DeMo was a massive failure, an unmitigated cock-up. Now he will have tough time fighting the 2024 elections because once inflation catches up population becomes restless. Unless he pulls another rabbit out of the hat he has tough time winning the next election. And that rabbit appears to be raiding the bank lockers for stealing gold and if that happens he will set the whole country on fire. Mark my words. ಮಂಗನ ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾಣಿಕ್ಯ If BJP can not gain majority in the next election, no other party will and then you watch the fun unfolding in the economy.       “fundamental right to preach and propagate their faith” is guaranteed in the Constitution. I was just highlighting that. If you have had a bad experience with religion or with God, I am sorry. I am not here to convert you! For me, the value of religion is seen in the fruit it produces. If it produces good fruit, it is a good enterprise. If the fruit is rotten, that surely is a sign of organizational decay or irrelevance. How many Christians that you know of go about converting others? The problem is the false “conversion” narrative (or lie) that is being peddled to incite people. The only reason I used the word “hooligan” is because these folks have been acting that way in the recent years — destroying church property, beating people, and even killing. If they are law-abiding citizens and they see a problem, they should go through the proper channel to seek redress. Note take law into their own hands! And your comment about “religion and god” being the biggest reason for countless deaths….well, that’s your opinion. And you may keep it.

    Even though I am a Christian, I am not for constructing statues of anyone! But if the people of a place feel that a statue of Jesus Christ would inspire them to lead better lives, then they should be allowed to do it as long as they have the land and the money for it. Why should the BJP/RSS have any problem? Christian institutions have played an important role in providing education, health-care, and social services to Indians irrespective of caste or creed. Christian Clergy, Religious and Laity serve in remote corners of India bringing relief to the poor and voiceless — and many a time they do so even risking their lives. What is the BJP/RSS afraid of? The 2% Indian Christians? Why? The population of Christians in India has remained under 3% for the past 70 years — even with the so called “conversions” that are said to be taking place!! The BJP/RSS is scared that their hollow faith will be exposed and are therefore working to instill fear and incite passions. Indian Christians have the fundamental right to preach and propagate their faith. And no RSS/BJP hooligan can take that away.

      Sir, latest amendment to the Indian constitution is 104th. If you meant 126th article, that is also not related to Anglo-Indian Community. There is no amendment that deprives the representation of Anglo-Indians. From what I know, article 334b deals with the special representation of the Anglo- Indian community in the parliament. During Independence Anglo-Indian community was about 5 lakhs. Two special seats by nomination were provided for Anglo-Indians. This was a special arrangement for 20 years which was later extended several times. The current extension by the 95th amendment ends in January 2020. It is estimated that now there are less than 1.5 lakhs who identify themselves as Anglo-Indians mainly because of emigration and marrying Indian community partners. The current extension ends in 2020, it was not extended. That only means they will not have special nomination seat. But they will have their representatives just like you and I have. I don’t see a single person of my micro-community in the Lokasbha. Does it mean I have no representative? Truly people are making up reasons to be against the current government where none exists like the CAA though no citizen will lose their citizenship due to CAA

    What if Pak pushes more of their majority people in the hope that the cut off date will be extended in the future? Do we have so much resource to take all of them. Their (Paks) main aim would be to change the demography of India. The respected Bishop should know how minorities in those countries have been pushed here. And the Hindus from Pak pushed here have been living miserably in those camps in India too as Government cannot do much as they are not citizens. Last year (December 2017) itself foreign vloggers who came to India have posted how poorly they are living here too but still those refugees think India is better! Do we really need to help the persecuted one? If we allow everyone, Pak will force many of their poor people to flee to India so that they can ‘occupy’. Sir, that attitude of ‘conquering’ India hook or by crook has not yet abated. History has taught us enough lessons. If we don’t learn from that it would be bad. I also want to make a mention about Mr Aubrey D’Souza, the first donor of the computers to St Aloysius College in 1986. He was a visionary and wanted his alma mater to launch into “COMPUTER REVOLUTION”. And thus it began with a four-terminal ZENITH ORION mini computer.     How exactly does the CAB affect the people mentioned in this article? Are they so concerned about discrimination lately? The CAB issue is not about the Muslims in general, it is not about the Muslims in India either, instead it’s about a couple of neighbouring countries whose ideology happens to be associated with what the Muslims in general which they believe in, some of which has taken extremely radical form in the last few decades to an extent of destroying anything and everything which they think is not “halal”. There is no easy answer to this CAB imbroglio – while the Indian government is rightly showing concerns about the oppressed minorities in Pakistan and Bangladesh, it also has to ensure the internal security of our own country and the challenge is in striking a balance. I am convinced 99.9% of the Muslims from our neighbouring countries do not want to destroy India but those 1% radicals (who are state sponsored by agencies such as ISI) that are the problem here. If the CAB allows Muslims of Pakistan and Bangla to enter India legally, what’s is to say the ISI won’t send the trained Jihadis in disguise to destabilise our country? And if that were to happen, these same people mentioned in this article will be the first ones to hit the streets once again to protest against the government for not providing security to its citizens when there is the terrorist attack. Do you see the irony and hypocrisy here? As I said, there are peace loving mainstream Muslims too in those neighbouring countries whom ideally we would like to help but how can we tell them apart to ensure they are not wolves in sheep’s clothing? What I suggest is that the good Muslims from those countries should they wish migrate to other prosperous Muslim countries such as the GCC for example. But GCC are not keen on accepting them either, are they? So, please stop all this hypocrisy and go deeper into the matter before trying to display your questionable empathy. And I am disgusted by the opposition parties to milk this situation. I hope Congress bites the dust and a viable left wing alternative emerges.

    I totally see what the central government is doing with this amendment to the Citizenship act. It could easily have included everyone from the neighbouring countries but if it had, then half of ISI and Jihadists would walk through the open gates and destablise our country. Some things are real and may be difficult to digest under the tinted lens of idealism but we have to be realists, suck it up and accept it. There is a genuine concern for the minorities in Pakistan and Bangladesh and therefore I welcome this amendment by the Indian government.

    The main issue here is a steep slope which leads to four road junction where a proper traffic control system is missing. Adding to this, city buses are started passing through in this residential road which also created traffic chaos. There is a leakage in drainage manhole in the middle of this slopy road for many months. Sewage water is continuously overflowing from it which causes health hazards as well as traffic safety issue also. Hope the concerned Department Authorities will consider this as an emergency job requirements to be attended very soon so that further casualties can be avoided to great extent.     While I am at it, let me also bring up another important issue to the attention of the “spiritual head” of the church and it’s to do with so many scandals that have plagued the churches in the recent years due to aspects related to the parish financial matters, one of which even resulted in the death of one young priest in our diocese only a few weeks ago. As it turns out the ordained priests deputed to run the parishes have gone well above their remit and that has resulted in disputes between the clergy and the laity. Priests should be allowed only to run the religious aspects pertaining to the sheep (Repeat that 10 times) however what has become evident in the past very many decades is that these self-righteous priests poke their nose into financial matters of the parish as well. This, more often than not, ends up in altercations between the various factions within the church. These priests create these factions within the church for their own advantage. These priests preach one thing from the pedestal but are masters in running their mind games to ensure their control is exerted on every aspect of the church. It is not a rocket science to note but the financial matters should be left in the hands of the parish financial committee and the priest should not poke his nose in its day to day affairs, instead he should act in the capacity of how the president of our country ceremonially decorates the position to ensure the constitution of our country is upheld. That post for the most part should be ceremonial. But what we are finding is that these parish financial committees are only namesake while each and every matter is indirectly controlled by the priests. If anyone from the financial committee raises a dissenting voice, then the same priest through coup d’état, by clandestinely manipulating the other financial committee members will get rid of that person. This is totally unacceptable. The priest should remain only the spiritual head of the church and concern himself only with the matters of the religion. After all, the priests come and go after a few years where as the parishioners for the most part remain parishioners forever. The church and its property (be it commercial buildings, schools, income producing assets etc.) belong to the parish and its people. The schools and other assets are built using the contribution from the well-wishers of the church. The schools are run by tax payers’ money so what business it is of the priests to assume the role of the dictator? The parish financial committee should run the financial affairs of the parish, not the priest. The committee should be ultimately held accountable and there should be a due process to democratically replace that committee after a period with other qualified members. This ensures transparency and fairness in the affairs of the church. If such a system were to be followed, we would not see another unnatural death of a young priest. Coming to this recent disgraceful episode these priests in question have acted so disgracefully that they have caused us, the coastal Catholics, hang our collective heads in shame in front of others. How can we show our face in front of people from other communities? A silly matter that should have been amicably settled with the full purview of the financial committee was allowed to rot internally and we saw how it spectacularly blew up on our face only a few weeks ago in one of our neighbouring churches. I am deeply ashamed that this incident has taken place where people from other communities are also asking for enquiry into the death of the priests (they are not wrong by the way). These same priests lecture us every Sunday about virtues and vices. They guilt us into believing in all the celestial fairies just so that they can keep control over us, they offer counselling to the disputing parties be it between the divorcing couples or the broken families but in the end they could not even handle such a silly matter of disagreement between themselves. And now there appears to be a covert attempt made to systematically cover up the whole shameful episode. If this scandal is brushed under the carpet, why would anyone take these priests seriously? I am not at all a religious person but I take pride in my community and therefore it find it right that I express my views. Would someone higher up in the church take leadership and see facts are laid bare in front of the public and also ensure necessary changes are implemented so that such scandalous episodes never repeat again? The real irony is that the head parish priest in question is a talented musician and few decades ago, when he was the assistant parish priest at another church, he had released a Konkani devotional album with the title “Mog kar pelyaaso” (love thy neighbour) and there is a line in one of the songs which can be roughly translated as “before you make offerings to the God go and make amends with the one you have disagreement with…”. This is why I say they preach one thing while doing exactly the opposite. It’s nothing but sheer hypocrisy!

    Why was Hubli airport a failure? The reason is that in order to make an airport to be commercially viable it takes more than just what the government can do in terms of providing infrastructure etc. A lot depends on the private players who are willing to take a massive gamble because you have to burn money every day to ensure your airline survives. We have seen plenty of airlines having gone bust due to not considering this fact in the last few years/decades. There is another important player in this equation and that is the passenger. If he/she can not afford the air travel, there is nothing the government nor the private players can do about it. All this budget airlines, monsoon dhamaka offers of cheap travel are not long term commercially viable business plans when it comes to airlines. Out of 100 seats available, if only 10 passengers can afford full/premium price while the rest of the seats have to be filled through discounted offers, the airlines can not break even. This affordability/viability is the reason why big airlines such as Emirates, Singpore airlines do not fly to Mangalore. Just getting passengers during festive seasons is not enough for them. My view is economically, northern Karnataka is still under-developed therefore introducing well connecting airlines at this stage is a foolish move. Develop road and rail infrastructure instead and when the over all economy of the region improves, then think about building airports. People who understand macro economics wouldn’t commit this blunder. I would say these airlines will cease operations in the next 2-3 years. It looks like the hidden motive behind this drama is that politicians needs a quick means to get to various regions of the State so they are burning tax payers’ money to build these white elephants so it will help them during election sojourns. It also helps them get votes by fooling voters about these projects.

    By going through the article I have a feeling that Diana’s phone & computers are hacked. Similar incident happened to me when I was travelling by Malaysian Airlines at LAX. When I reached the airport, the counter staff told me that I cannot travel as my flight is via Malaysia & Japan via code shared flight with certain number of hours of layover. But they allowed one elderly passenger who was in similar situation like me with the manager informing staff to put him in direct flight. But there was no direct flight & Malaysian Airlines ceased to operate from LAX in a few months due to financial constraints I believe & disappearance of flight from Malaysia to China with pilot saying “Good Night Malaysia” happened after a few months & one more accident of taking a shorter route via war zone in Ukraine possibly to save fuel. I feel that Spicejet has a lot to do to change their business model so that the counter staff & other do not have much of a say to decide matters about luggage fees etc & more of accountability since the customer lost luggage twice. I also advice people travelling from Bengalure to preferably use Fly Bus which goes directly to the airport & you can put any amount of luggage, reaches in 6 -7 hours with comfortable journey & no hassles even though one needs to spend a few hours more by road but it’s safer than catching a budget airline. Since ultra long flights are more than 20 hours duration, taking a few extra hours by road is worth it since one needs to spend so many hours to go to the airport, boarding & flying time etc., else one can split the journey in Bengaluru with travelling a day earlier.

I suggest buying travel insurance which has several cimponents including baggage loss. Losing important items can be indeed frustrating.

Eat Raita made of Red onion. It also helps to get rid of cough (not normal cough) which normally requires antibiotic (Coughing like a dog with whoff whoff sound). Eat daal (toor or massoor) as half source of protein.

  • even we experienced the same problem with spicemax we got our luggage last without tag and one of our luggage is missing till now there is no news about it we travelled from Mangalore to Delhi on 6 November and returned from Delhi to Mangalore on 10 th November. There was no priority check in for us . There was heavy rush in the counter and the staff members were hurrying passengers without even considering our priority check in who is responsible for our lost baggage so please note there is no priority check in and our luggage and are not safe

    I had also a similar experience. Our seat on row 3 was not a more legroom seat, although we were spice max passengers. We were travelling from port Blair to ahmedabad via Chennai. The air hostess sakshi just claimed her inability to help, saying if there will be a vacancy, she may give us more legroom seats! Third person in our row also had max seat booked! Upon insisting for meeting the flight commander, some other employee of spice intervened, and asked us to go to emergency exit row, where some of the crew were sitting! I wonder how we were charged more legroom seats online where they were regular seats!!! Parul kotdawala

    I had a similar experience with spicejet multiple times where food runs out… no options…boiler not working but one stands out …on my flight from goa to Mumbai…I had corporate tickets which I had played for a meal and nonalcholic beverage of my choice .. during the time of flight the airhostess only served the spicemax passegers… didnot serve us… we’re I sat patiently as I thought eventually she would come to us… then the captain started his descent .. i called the airhostess and told her about our meal .. she clearly said she forgot..i asked her to serve now .. then she said all food is finished.. I can take a water bottle and Pringles…I told her this was not right.. and not to serve us… as I didn’t like getting leftovers or begging for what I was promised any owed.. She was like why are you making an issue… as if this was a regular occurrence… but for sure never fly spicejet again

    Spicemax is nothing just wasting your money paying extra for nothing last week i travelled with my family and kid thru spicemax my total allowed is 90kg but i had 200 grm extra which dubia spicejet agent made me to remove it and told me to pay extra money he was very rude i told him am a spicemax customer but no respect and you will be treated cheaper than other economy passenger.overall spicejet service is very bad not recommended for professionals and family

    Alfie, the thing is that you paid for Spice-max for helping them. Even if no one had paid for those seats, then they would have asked volunteers to come forward to sit in rows of seats close to emergency exits. All airlines do this. Luggage priority is not always guaranteed as it is handled by third party. But what I feel is that, by reading this article they might give you a complimentary ticket for your next trip.
