  • From Henry James on Small group of employees behind fraud at NMC Health, says B.R. Shetty

My prediction has turned out to be true – 6 US law firms have filed class action suit against NMC on behalf of the investors who have lost money, to demand compensation for losses due to the alleged securities fraud. This could run into several hundred millions but nobody has that kind of money as NMC already has more debt on its books than what they can handle, let alone compensating investors which means focus will turn on those who had allegedly committed the fraud. Now people alleged will lose their shirts, pants, lungi and everything. India is the safe place for now. But India has strong treaty with UAE where in a decree passed by a UAE court can be legally enforced in India (to even attach assets and hand it over to UAE). For criminal cases even extradition is also in the treaty. More over there will be diplomatic pressure from UK and US as their investors have lost money and importantly UK has lost its image as a prominent investor destination due to the NMC fraud. So, Indian lawyers need to be really creative. First remedy I recommend is to transfer of Indian assets to distant relatives ASAP. And when the extradition summons comes, start something like a chest pain or something to that effect and drag it on in the Indian courts for another 10 years. By then probably it’s time to buy the field anyway. A point to note – A lot of family members of the alleged and those in higher positions of the alleged’s group of companies are inside UAE. Until UAE squeezes the last penny they won’t be able to get out of the country.

  • From Henry James on Small group of employees behind fraud at NMC Health, says B.R. Shetty

Let’s for argument’s sake say what has been clarified so far through the above press release is true but then how do you explain the financial scandal at UAE Exchange/Finablr which is a different entity than NMC? In the last 48 hours it has come to light that there is nearly a billion dollar black hole on Finablr’s books and it was so far hidden from the auditors. Where is that money gone? At Finablr the accused is still the chairman so he can’t give the NMC employee excuse. Trust me, this is a classic 420 case. If the accused has not clarified why he was part of the NMC board until March when he did not have the qualifying stake, how valid is the above clarification? Whatever reported stake was totally misstated to pull wool over investors’ eyes. That in itself was criminal. West will never trust another Indian businessman ever again. Earlier this year the problems in the group started to exacerbate and there wasn’t enough money even to pay the NMC staff salary. That time money was illegally diverted from UAE Exchange (i.e. the money people remit to their home countries). Normally remittance money clears within the same day of the transaction but if you go to twitter today there are people whose money has been withheld without any explanation for more than 2 months now. How does the defendant explain that? One of my distant relatives wanted to use their service in GCC in January this year to make payment to the overseas suppliers but was told the money would be debited from his account immediately but remittance would be done after 15 days. There itself I got the whiff of things being not kosher at the emerald city. Now, the accused is unlikely to ever set foot in the GCC. As I said clearly there are other big local sharks involved in this scam and for their survival they do not want the accused back in the UAE. The lenders and the investors will suffer. UAE may cover it up and people may forget it after some time but UAE has been caught at the worst possible economic downturn. On one hand oil prices have plummeted and on the other, they are fighting the epidemic. This NMC drama was the last thing they wanted. NMC brand is unlikely to survive because if UAE government bails it out then the western investors will file a class action suit for compensation and at the same time the new management will be liable to clear the debt. So if I were to wager a bet, NMC brand will disappear. All the assets could be sold off to condors at bargain basement price. But UAE will lose its reputation and nobody will invest in that country. Just to be clear, I do not have a dog in the fight but my interest is only from the viewpoint of 20000 NMC staff who have been left in the dark about their careers in the middle of the worst economic downturn. Second interest is about the reputational damage this scandal has caused to Indians. Now onwards no Indian will ever be trusted in the Middle East again. In Indians there is total lack of integrity and sense of corporate responsibility. We have seen it times and again, be it Mallya, ILFS, PNB, PMC, Jet Airways, HDIL, Yes Bank Choksi, Nirav Modi, and this is the latest kid on the block. I keep repeating this – we do not have strict laws against corporate malpractice where as in the West such crimes get minimum 25 years in jail. That’s what we are lacking. Punishing one person with 25 years jail terms will bring the rest of them in line. Another thing that I have learnt from this drama is that the so-called “successful” businessmen are economically illiterate. They simply do not understand the business cycle. They think there is never-ending supply of new credit/money entering into the system so all their embezzlement could be tided over. But in economy there are ups and downs. In Buffet’s own words It’s during the ‘downs’ that people who were swimming naked get caught out. That’s exactly happened in this case. They thought the scam could be covered up by continuing to grow the ponzi bigger but trees don’t grow all the way to the moon.

  • From TGG on Small group of employees behind fraud at NMC Health, says B.R. Shetty

NMC, the company B R Shetty founded was listed in London stock exchange in 2012. B R Shetty was the Chairman of the NMC board till 2017 and played an active role in its management till then. In 2019, the report on non disclosure of $2.7 Bn in debt was published. This is a serious matter as NMC was now a public company with thousands of employees and shareholders. Therefore, I am not sure if Mr.Shetty can feign ignorance of such a huge amount of debt in his company. There is also an allegation that these amounts were used to promote other businesses owned by Mr. Shetty. It is pertinent to note that it was in 2018 that Mr. Shetty and his son launched their financial services firm Finablr and acquired TImesMoney the same year. In the interest of the thousands of NMC employees, its shareholders, the banks and the reputation of India, Mr. Shetty must submit himself to the UAE and UK authorities and be accountable for this financial fiasco which involves $billions of public money.

  • From Henry James on Small group of employees behind fraud at NMC Health, says B.R. Shetty

$4 billion unaccounted debt can not build up in 1 or 2 years. My view is this goes back at least 10 years. No bank will keep mum over billions lent to one entity up until the scam is exposed. No lender puts all their eggs in one basket without there being corruption at the very top. Such massive amounts lent makes an entry in banker’s gazette distributed through the central banks so the whole banking system is aware of the financial exposure. Central banks do these things to mitigate systemic risks to the whole economy. We are talking about an amount which is the entire GDP of some of the tinpot countries. This whole thing smacks of the rot at the very top. I am absolutely certain a few prominent local towel heads are involved in this too. May be it goes back to 10-12 years when they were trying to float NMC on London Stock Exchange. They must have misrepresented/misstated the company finances just for convincing the UK regulator so they could lure the western investors. They must have pocketed the auditors too. They might have started small with the lenders with nice kickbacks (like how Mallya pulled it off) but the ponzi grew to unmanageable levels over time but they felt they were OK as long as they stuck with each other and never revealed it to the outsiders. This muddy waters expose figuratively threw muddy water over the whole scandal and the people involved are now trying to hide by blaming each other. The first thing the accuseds do in such circumstances is to muddy the water (if you pardon the pun!) to an extent the public gets confused. In psychology it’s called the gaslighting. This news article above is exactly that. All said and done our man is in deep trouble. Looks like biriyani in the middle of the desert if he ever steps into GCC. Those who lost money in the stock will bring in a class action suite for compensation. If UAE does not compensate them, then they will not be able to access international financial markets. And now UAE needs that access more than ever. So UAE government can not cover it up period. Let’s see what the UK regulator’s investigation comes up with.

  • From Henry James on Small group of employees behind fraud at NMC Health, says B.R. Shetty

If I were to put a finger on it, I would say it’s a world class heist where many people are involved – the accuser, accused, lender, locals and they all wanted to pull something really big because these people are untouchable in UAE. Without Muddy Waters exposé this would have continued for a while. Listing on LSE turned out to be their undoing as they were subject to public scrutiny. NMC insider leaked the malpractice info to Muddy Waters and then they couldn’t hide it no more and hence started to distance from each other and our man left holding the bag. There is no honour among *******. The clarification above seems too vague and does not present anything other than what a defense lawyer worth his salt would come up with. What doesn’t this letter not clarify about misrepresentation of the stake and attending the board meeting when one was not legally allowed to? That itself is enough to nail the case. This case can be covered up at India and GCC but not in the West because thousands of people have lost money that they had honestly invested in the stock. The regulators in the West will go far deeper into the forensic investigations because they are answerable to investors at LSE or else they will lose their edge. So people can deny and deflect all they want and the sheep in India may buy it but it doesn’t wash in front smart people in the West. Moreover Indian government is still waiting for the investment money promised to Kashmir, Kashi and elsewhere especially when such grand public announcements were made. Until that is fulfilled they won’t care. In UAE government has distanced itself well in advance. SO god only can save the royal family.

If billions can be embezzled using impersonation without one entity knowing anything about it then I consider UAE to be a banana republic. Even a 5 grand wire transfer to new a new payee these days raises money laundering alert these days and to say billions were siphoned off without the banks or the NMC board or the regulator being aware of it is pure fiction.

Why did the police remove the barricade before noting down the datils? Is that not the standard procedure? In the US, they note down the vehicle number first (automatically) and then the DL. If DL is not there the person could be arrested. So, this is not such a complicated procedure. When there were multiple policemen, why could not do all this? It is too sad that such arrogant people escape. It is a shame for the police too.

Sorry to see the plight of birds. At the same time, I have read another article that cautions against feeding primates. The article says in our enthusiasm to feed the primates, we need to be careful not to pass the virus to the pirates. That would cause the problem to go out of hand by spreading the virus among the primates. The article did not mention anything about feeding the birds. So not sure if birds can get the virus, would they suffer or if they transmit asymptotically. I would request experts to provide a guideline on this so that birds will not go hungry as well as they will be safe.

  • From Henry James on 85-year-old Covid cured dies in Kerala

The biggest blunder the West is committing during this epidemic is deliberately overlooking the distinction between those people dying with the Covid as opposed to those dying of it. This is a convenient manipulation of data by the vested interests in order to justify their lockdown. It appears as though every death is being lumped into the category to show the virus as being the reason. The more I read about this pandemic the more it is making me to question the actions being taken. How can one squarely attribute a 85-year old’s death is due to virus when it’s a natural age to die anyway? People at that age die of several complications as a norm when only one would be the root cause because at that age body organs are not in the best of health so they do not cooperate well when another part of the body is affected. If someone in their 30s died of covid I would buy into that argument. But majority of the deaths are over 70s. And what is this obsession with someone wanting to live up to be 100 anyways when you are at a stage where all you do is stink of p*ss and **** and not one person wants to come close to you and those who do, do it reluctantly? By 70 all the main events in one’s life will be over. Any more life after that should be treated only as a blessing as opposed to be a fundamental right. In the middle ages the average life span of humans was only 45. It’s only after the 2nd world war we have assumed that one has to live as much as possible. I do not have a problem with that view per se as long as they can look after themselves through their own finances (or their families) as opposed to being dependent on the state and the society but in the West everyone is dependent on the state to look after them to live up to 100 while those countries are already bankrupt and sucking the blood from the younger population in order to keep the 95 years olds in the ICU. If you really ask me, this virus scare is a convenient power-grab plot by the leftists in the West to create a police state just like how the US used 9/11 to pass the Snoopers’ Charter and we lost all our rights. The fact that those good-for-nothing TSAs who cup your genitals at the gates every time you pass through an airport is the testament to that and that’s because you all allowed it to happen. Now the megalomaniac Bill Gates is hellbent on planting a chip in all of us and not one ****er is speaking out against it. What liberty is there going to be left for us once that happens. Just think. Moreover many people in the West hate Trump to win the 2nd term. That tells you everything you need to know about this drama. And it amazes me why the East (especially India) has fallen for this evil socialist power-grab plot in the West when we have nothing major to worry about. Do you really know how many thousands of people die due of unnatural causes in our country every day? Compare that to the total number of COVID deaths in the last 4 weeks. What does that tell you? We have successfully managed to destroy our economy. Now even the government is broke and legislators have been asked to take pay cut. That’s a really bad situation. Karnataka government is so bankrupt that it is thinking of selling family jewels. Do you really comprehend the tough days that are going to be ahead of us? Now learn to live with the consequences. Just count how many families are going to be destroyed due to unemployment, hunger, depression, broken relationships etc. and contrast that with the Covid casualties. Is it all going to be worth it? To make it worse most of the Middle Eastern expatriates are going to be permanently returning to India soon and will be competing in the already ailing job market. As for those in the West, in all likelihood, the economic depression caused by this drama is going to be so severe that majority of H1B visa holders will be forced to return to India. Those permanent residents will have a tough time anyway when they find that their 401Ks and retirement plans have all gone down the drain. And another lesson – Never fall for the mainstream thought. Majority are almost always wrong. Force yourself to be a contrarian and go deeper into the facts, beyond the headlines. Instead of reading only one news paper or watching one news channel, try other sources too. Some countries are even thinking of passing a law to imprison those who do not agree with their version of the virus narrative and are being branded as fake news creators. They don’t event want to discuss this matter on public forums. What I am saying is allow a healthy debate to take place and then people can decide who is right and who is wrong.

In case you didn’t realise this is how police state comes…inch by inch, little by little. The public is acting like frog in the boiling water. The emperor knows if water is too hot, frog will jump out. More people die of unnatural deaths than the corona virus casualties till date. If anyone is interested look at Sweden. Apart from banning mass gathering (over 50 people) and isolating the elderly, they did not lockdown the country and yet their covid casualties are no worse than other countries. So that makes you think if there is some other motive behind all this drama. Don’t get me wrong, the virus is real, but it’s no different than the flu virus with the only difference being no vaccine exists so far. But it’s not something like a bubonic plague. So total shutting down of the country is gross over-reaction. We all will laugh at this in a few years time, just like how people ridicule the Y2K bug which turned out to be a damp squib.

clearly this man is immensely frustrated at being tied down by his servant, the government, and is only asking for his freedom and liberty. I don’t fault in him or the policemen. It’s difficult for both of them. Policemen are treated in an undignified and disrespectful manner by their “seniours” throughout the day, right from the time of their recruitment to their employment, following practices from the “durbars” of authoritarian Maharajas, Sultans, and the British Raj. Thus, policemen at the ground level behave in the same manner with the powerless general public. This cannot change until the IAS and IPS (ICS as a whole) get off their high-horses, break the cycle of servility and subjugation, roll-up their sleeves and implement modern and scientific principles of efficient management. In this case, the policemen were indeed doing their best, given their circumstances. However, the elderly man needed someone to counsel him and speak to him more calmly, soothingly and respectfully.

    • From Narendra Nayak on Did P C Ray discover hydroxychloroquine?

This is from the report which has been quoted above: “What are chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine? Bayer invented the medicine chloroquine in 1934, and it has been used for decades to treat malaria throughout the world. Hydroxychloroquine was invented during World War II to provide an alternative with fewer side effects.” CHLOROQUINE was invented in 1934. Its derivative HYROXYCHLOROQUINE was invented during world war 2 which was certainly not in 1934!  A patent  for its manufacturing was in 1950! Hydroxychloroquine is a drug that was used originally to treat malaria, especially in patients who could not tolerate the similar compound chloroquine. It also has been used to combat autoimmune diseases such as lupus erythematosus. This is from https://www.acs.org/content/acs/en/molecule-of-the-week/archive/h/Hydroxychloroquine.html? In 1950, chemists Alexander R. Surrey and Henry F. Hammer at the Sterling–Winthrop Research Institute (Rensselaer, NY) published a synthesis of hydroxychloroquine. The parent company, Sterling Drug, obtained a US patent on the compound and its method of preparation the same year.  Please remember that choloroquine and hydroxychloroquine are two different compounds!

if the LOCKDOWN and social distancing and Curfews after certain permissible hours to shop, have so far not been successful to contain the spreading of this COVID-19 Virus, perhaps the experts should adopt to Plan B measures, that they should come up with. Indians have paid heed to staying at home, ringing bells, clapping hands, and lighting diyas and candles, but nothing has come of it so far! Simply extending LOCKDOWNS is resulting in soaring prices and shortages, and empty talks by Politicians that essentials will be made available and prices will be kept under control is not proving anything. The reality is getting worst with people who have to pay double the prices for vegetables, fruits, Fish and meats, with none of those in Authority who claim to be in control of the prices and availability situation, are doing anything to control the prices nor maintain the availability situation. Small examples before the lockdown are: Tomato selling at Rs.20.-/Kg is now selling for Rs.40./Kg., Carrot was Rs.40/Kg. is now selling for Rs.80 and Mutton was 450/Kg. is now selling for Rs.900/Kg. Fish is not available or exorbitantly priced. But none of these shops are closed down by the authorities.

Great that he did that after passing away in 1944 a year before the drug was discovered and five years before the process was patented and eleven years before it was permitted for use by FDA in 1955! We have heard of ghosts of Nehru and Gandhi doing a lot of negative work to sabotage the present regime but this is the first time that we hear the spirit of a rationalist-scientist doing it, that too for a change- positive work! Read this about him quoted from:https://www.famousscientists.org/prafulla-chandra-ray/ “Prafulla Ray wanted to use the marvels of science for lifting up the masses. He was a very passionate and devoted social worker and he participated eagerly and actively in helping famine and flood struck people in Bengal during the early 1920s. He promoted the khadi material and also established many other industries such as the Bengal Enamel Works, National Tannery Works and the Calcutta Pottery Works. He was a true rationalist and he was completely again the caste system and other irrational social systems. He persistently carried on this work of social reformation till he passed away.”

  • From B.G.MOHANDAS on Did P C Ray discover hydroxychloroquine?

Beginning in 1862 in Darjeeling, cinchona plantations flourished over the next several decades in the verdant hills as Malaria sent chill down the spine of people in vast swathes of the country. And it still does. In 2016, over half of India’s population (698 million) was at risk of contracting malaria, according to the World Malaria Report. The planters, however, started facing a crisis of sorts after introduction of synthetic-chemical production of quinine. “We are hopeful that due to increase in demand for anti-malaria drugs in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, cinchona plantation in Darjeeling will grow. We are hoping for good business after years of disappointment,” Samuel Rai, director of Cinchona Plantations, West Bengal, told PTI. India, which produces almost 70 per cent of the drug, relented and said it will be supplying the medicine to the neighbouring countries and also those that are badly affected by the pandemic. America tops the list of the countries ravaged by COVID-19 with more than 14,000 deaths reported so far. It has also begun clinical trial to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of hydroxychloroquine for the treatment of adults hospitalized with coronavirus disease, according to the National Institutes of Health, which functions under the US Department of Health and Human Services. According to Rai, hydroxychloroquine is a synthetic molecule as it is derived from chloroquine, which is chemically processed quinine. Quinine derived from cinchona barks is natural, he said. Asked why he is bullish on doing good business, Rai said, “The surge in demand for anti-malaria medicines will boost natural production of quinine from cinchona barks.” Quinine sulphate, produced from dry barks of cinchona, is actually the quinine drug needed to treat malaria patients. “Since the demand for anti-malaria drugs has increased, we have received queries from Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh for purchase of dry cinchona barks. We are hopeful that naturally derived quinine could be useful (in the treatment of COVID-19),” he said. Cinchona plantations are exclusive to Darjeeling and Kalimpong in the country, Rai said. According to him, production of quinine has stopped in West Bengal since the closure of factories in 2001 as they failed to comply with good manufacturing practices (GMP) norms. “We are hopeful that it will recommence very soon,” he said. Kolkata-headquartered PSU company Bengal Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals managing director P M Chandraiah said it has a stock of maximum 10 lakh tablets of chloroquine phosphate (250 mg) which is used to treat the vector-borne disease. BPCL will not be able to supply more such drug due to shortage of key component and active pharmaceutical ingredient (API), he said. ” while P C Ray founded company is credited with being the largest manufacturer of hyroxychloroquine it is far from the truth is wrong statement Sir”

    • From Narendra Nayak on Did P C Ray discover hydroxychloroquine?

I wonder where the confusion is because according to the company itself is quoted that they do not manufacture it but CAN if asked! Read this https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/covid-19-psu-with-chloroquine-capacity-idles-much-of-it/article31293828 that too it manufactures CHLOROQUINE at present and not HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE which it says can be made by a modification of the process. I do not what is the need to confuse quinine (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quinine) with chloroquine (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chloroquine) and hydroxychloroquine (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydroxychloroquine). THE STATEMENT THAT BENGAL CHEMICALS DOES NOT PRODUCE EVEN A GRAM OF THE HYROXYCHLOROQUINE AT THE TIME OF MY WRITING THE ABOVE IS THE TRUTH. THE STATEMENT OF ITS MANAGING DIRECTOR QUOTED ABOVE STANDS FOR IT PLEASE READ THAT AGAIN-“Kolkata-headquartered PSU company Bengal Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals managing director P M Chandraiah said it has a stock of maximum 10 lakh tablets of chloroquine phosphate (250 mg) which is used to treat the vector-borne disease. BPCL will not be able to supply more such drug due to shortage of key component and active pharmaceutical ingredient (API), he said.” Chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine are not the same compound. What is the point of having shops open from 7 to 12? people will flock to the supermarkets and the whole purpose of the lockdown is lost. I also cannot understand how people travelling in a car or bike can spread the virus. Even if they are just driving to have fun instead of sitting at home they cannot spread the virus.

  • From Henry James on Ban on All Private Vehicles to Continue Until April 14 - Kota Srinivas Poojary

While the enormity of the spread of the virus is truly mind-boggling I am not entirely sure the enforced shutting down of the economy is going to be a good idea. I make no attempt to belittle or besmirch the sincere efforts the authorities are putting in in order to contain the spread of the virus, there are far too many variables in this which will result in drastic unintended consequences down the line. No doubt the elderly and the vulnerable should be quarantined however shutting down the whole system for uncertain duration will bring nothing but misery to our future generations. There is no right or wrong solution to how this pandemic has to be handled however we face a devil and deep sea situation – guillotine or death by thousand cuts and I don’t take it lightly when I say this. At some point we all have to bite the bullet and count the casualties, because the virus may come back in mutated form in a year’s time. Are we going to shut down the system once again? My view is governments are overreacting because they do not know what to do and hence would like to be seen to be doing something. As far as I have looked up no country/government has analysed the long-term economic impact of this lockdown. Ever since the 2008-09 economic crisis, the world was on borrowed time. Nothing was mended at that time, instead governments printed trillions in order to pull wool over the whole scandal. Now this Covid virus has been that external pinprick that has truly burst the over-inflated bubble. It could have been anything else but virus turned out to be the one. As far as I can see businesses will collapse worldwide due to this lockdown, unemployment will rise and it is going to bring about untold economic misery all around us. We will enter into decades of global depression. All the western governments and their citizens were already neck-deep in debt and this lockdown is the ultimate icing on the cake. We may even go back a century when it comes to prosperity/social wellbeing. Most small and medium sized businesses hold cash enough for a month. Nobody has tried to understand what will happen when we go beyond a month but governments are mandating that they pay their employees. And these small businesses form 70% of the whole economy. May be I should leave it to our in-house expert Drona to elaborate on this but coming to the virus itself, I am not entirely convinced it can be compared to the likes of plague. The data does not fit together. The number of affected and the casualties for the most part are within the range for a normal winter flu season (with may be a few aberrations in some places). It is true that we do not have a panacea yet but according to the experts, majority of the people are either not aware that they had the virus while many others have gotten better. The only common factor among the casualties appears to be those with weaker immune system – either the elderly or those with other health conditions. While I have sympathy for them but my point is how long is this going to continue? What is the trade-off we are all going to agree on at some point? If we all sat at home through the winter, we can even beat the common cold but at what cost? If we continue to lockdown the whole country for another 3 months, with the summer season coming up we may beat the virus but then the government will have another set of worries to deal with, such as inflation, unemployment, suicides, broken families etc. In the last 15-20 years, our expectations and sense of entitlements in life have gone too far high. Imagine in this scenario the breadwinner of the family losing job. It affects the entire family. It affects their children’s future. This oncoming recession is something not any of us have seen in our lifetime. May be when we enter into an economic depression in a few years, the governments and people will realise this drastic shutdown of the economy (which is happening today) was a bad idea. The governments are doing these things not so much as they have concern for all of us, instead it is more of a face-saving exercise for them because they have been caught with their pants down. They were least prepared. They have millions to spend on horse-trading using 5-star resorts but are now begging the public for donations. There is another aspect here – The Asian countries, many of which are still ‘developing’, should not have gone for such drastic measures like their western counterparts have taken up. May be India could have shutdown international air travel back in mid-February but should have kept the domestic economy going. We would have recovered faster. Now all of us will end up in the same ditch. Western governments (mainly Europe) were nearly bankrupt anyway and were looking for an excuse and this virus is a godsend for them so they can now blame everything on the virus, whereas for India the gross over-reaction was not at all necessary. Again, this is my view. I hope I end up being proven wrong on the predictions I have made above.

Kerala , which has more positive cases definitely seems to be managing the situation much better, all essential supplies ensured throughout the state, in some cases even the local govt organised home deliveries. As of yesterday, they have commenced community kitchens to provide food for the underprivileged. And as a neighbouring district we are not even able to manage the essential supplies for few hours in the day. Very sad indeed.

The lockdown is being enforced effectively by the police department. But what about the district administration and local govt ensuring that essential supplies reach the public. The main reason for many cases in Kerala being reported that is that they have rigorous testing and mass quarantine. Can we confidently say that all the cases in DK have been detected ? DO we have such rigorous testing ? Kerala imposed a lockdown first in the country but they still manage to ensure supply of essentials , emergency transport to the public, good healthcare etc.

How do you ensure everyone does not get the dreaded virus along with the essentials? Who will ensure the safety of volunteers who take part? Social inequalities and lack of formal education are behind the unemployability. These people end up finding self employment. Banks give loans. Of course they need to be monitored for hygiene and safety and nuisance they cause. Why not take one or two of them to your church compond on a Sunday? • From Henry James on Despite CM BSY’s orders, Malls functioning in Udupi

This virus outbreak is going to bring about a few changes soon – 1. People’s health and hygiene standards are drastically going to improve. Indian government may even enact a law to punish those who spit or blow their nose in the public. The Kerala State government already has passed this law. 2. According to some surveys 80% of the white collar jobs can be safely done from home. This rings the alarming bell for the commercial real estate. Many financially struggling businesses will use the Work-from-home (WFH) model for their employees so employers can save on the inflated rents and the associated running costs in big cities. This is a bolt out of the blue for the already ailing real estate sector. But in all fairness they deserve it. 3. This WFH model for the white collar jobs is going to bring about a revolution in the labour market/employment sector where work will be based on assignments/projects (bound by the project-specific contractual obligations) to be finished within a time frame. This gives a lot of flexibility for both the workers as well as the employers. Employees can finish their job in a flexible manner while still trying to balance rest of their life while the employers can get rid of all the additional costs that come in the form of office rent, personnel/Human Resources etc. Labour force will be forced to manage themselves and handle every aspect pertaining to their jobs. At the moment the unions dictate the businesses while the union members get all the benefits regardless of whether they are productive at their jobs or not. This new model will also force the individuals to upskill themselves instead of relying on the employers to do everything for them. The labour laws in the developed world are draconian and allow little flexibility. That will change soon…It is going to be ಪಂಡಿ ಬೇಲೆ, ಪಾಡಿ ನುಪ್ಪು as they in Tulu. 4. This epidemic will send a strong signal to those who get to the streets to protest anything and everything just in order to score their political objects regardless of the damage they cause to others’ property. The fear of death will keep them in check. At the moment a section of the population is toiling to pay taxes and the rest of the layabouts are enjoying the ride at their expense. 5. Most importantly, this epidemic has forced the world to pause for a moment and take a deep breath. The way the world was running so far was as if there was no tomorrow. Every one was running but nobody really knew where exactly they were running to. This is a very much needed break. So, not everything is wrong about this virus. It has brought sense into various aspects of life.

Dear Alfie, You nor any one with some common sense cannot straighten things out in Mangalore or Udupi. Most works of roads, pavements, foot-over-bridges, drainage, storm-water drains come under the authority and responsibility of the Ministry of Public Works. However, none of the people in Authority ever walk – so it would not make any difference to them how planning, designing, and construction is carried out – as all their favoured Contractors give them their Moolah to get a job. Check out the amount of people hanging around in the Municipal offices in Mangalore and Udupi, who have no business to be there of any tax payment nature. No work is ever carried out to yours or mine satisfaction or comfort! The Smart City is a hypothetical title otherwise, you would not be the only one writing articles after articles on bad roads, bad drainage, bad pavements, excavation by cell phone companies, flooding, over-flowing sewers, having returned from US of A, where Ministry of Public Works is not governed by a Politician but by the people of that town/city Community.

Anil Ambani and Subash Chandra, two billionaires close to Modi and the BJP, are on Yes bank’s list of biggest defaulters. BJP wants SBI to buy Yes bank’s shares at Rs 10 per share when Yes bank’s value is probably zero. The most probable reason BJP is using taxpayer money to bail out Yes bank is to protect its billionaire cronies from having to pay thousands of crores in loans immediately to Yes bank.

A strange article, and very confusing, yet on facts. There are two distinct halves of the article, First an excellent write up of what parents should and should not do. Very realistic indeed. The second one seems to be an advertisement or endorsement of a product. That is a little strange because in the previous paragraph author send it is better not to control. Yet suggests using SPY-ware. As a parent, my question is “What do you do after finding something using spy-ware”? Once you see something, you have to prevent and you try to ‘politely tell’ or “angrily yell” Kid agrees but returns to the same activity a few days later. Any further hint or nudge could be misconstrued as controlling. So there is no win-win situation unless children ‘educate’ themselves to maintain the sanity at home and in their won life

It’s like rearranging the deck chairs on the sinking Titanic. SBI bailout may buy a couple of years but the poison will still remain in the banking sector. Might delay the inevitable by a little more. It’s like cancer cells. Until the government brings in a stringent criminal law to imprison those convicted under the financial misconduct for at least 25 years (i.e. the “chakki peesing” punishment) Indian economy hasn’t got a bat’s chance in hell of prospering. PMC’s Joy Thomas, PNB Shetty, Rana Kapoor et. al. should be sent away for at least 25 years. Then we may have some hope. In fact it’s the punishment of that kind that has maintained the reputation in the American financial system. But in India we have the English/Common law system but with the worst of both worlds where the accused gets more rights than those affected. And the never ending system of appeals pulls wool over everyone’s eyes. Why hasn’t Modi figured out about this? If there are 2 people who I want to point a finger at, then it is MMS and Chidambaram. Modi comes a distance 3rd. In fact if it were personally up to me, I would **** both MMS and PC with their own mundaas and lungi publicly. I still struggle to fathom with what decency they are criticising the current government about the current banking crisis when they were the chief architects.

  • From Henry James on PhonePe, Yes Bank's Other Digital Partners Face Heat of RBI's Moratorium

Just for the record, the ongoing Yes Bank saga is yet another fruit from the UPA era which despite everyone being aware it, the BJP government did nothing in the last 6 years. All the key people such as Raghuram Rajan, Urjit Patel, Bhandary knew about this but our dear leader Modi-G couldn’t care less, instead he replaced them all with stooges. Now let the BJP government deal with the mess somebody else had created. Selling tea may make someone an able leader but that does not automatically make him an expert on everything. A good leader listens. The economy is collapsing in front of our eyes, banks are on life support, stock market is crashing. Only low oil price is keeping a lid on the simmering turmoil. Now some idiot close to him will advice him to raid the bank lockers. And then you watch the fun unfolding in front of your eyes. Ever since BJP came to power Modi has gone on a spending binge using borrowed money (mudra yojana etc.). He was effectively doing banks’ job without employing due diligence. It’s easy to throw away somebody else’s money. Banks have a well-established process while ascertaining the creditworthiness of the borrower but UPA used shoulder-twisting techniques to lend to their cronies while Modi by-passed the system altogether. Now the taxpayer is ****ed. The writing is almost on the wall, he will be forced to turn himself into Erdogan or a Mussolini. You can not rule a country of 1.2 billion when the system is crashing. Sad to see it because in other areas of administration he has done a commendable job. I am not questioning his intentions – I am sure he cares about the poor people but so does everyone else. But when there is no money, from where are you going to help the poor? On one hand he wants digital economy (cash ban) and at the same time people can not get to their money due to the banks collapsing. Why is he not getting the point? A little bit of common sense and economic knowledge would have helped but he and those close to him are too stubborn to listen. Yathaa raaja, thathaa prajaa. Now sit back and enjoy.

  • From Henry James on Relations are sacred… Let us respect relationships

Read the below 10 times… There are no “real” relations in life apart from the blood relations. Everything else is a social construct powered by the illusion a few body-chemicals create in the mind. From evolution standpoint men are pigs and women are weak, so in order to tame the former and protect the latter, the institution of marriage was created by the society. As a precursor to marriage, society felt it convenient to allow a phase called “relationship”. Do not read too much into it more than what it truly is. All this soulmate, lover etc. is absolute bull. If love truly existed people would never fight after they got married. Existentially speaking, marriage and relationships are a meaningless fad. All that the existence/nature cares about is the continuation of the species and for that it creates attraction between the 2 genders. The process of reproduction is as ugly as sin but this attraction that the nature creates between opposite sexes transcends all of that. The nature (i.e. the unconscious mind) is stronger manifolds compared to our conscious mind and hence we succumb to our bodily urges. All nature cares about is the meeting of the seed with the ovum. And that meeting is what ultimately matters to the nature. Everything else, as I said, is a social drama. If physical beauty really mattered, women wouldn’t begin to lose their physical charm as they grew old. There was no make up necessary. The point is, the external beauty in a woman was conferred by nature only with the purpose of attracting the male for the sake of reproduction. There is no other reason. Unfortunately some people have monetised their beauty to become models and are seeking attention from the public. I would go one step further and claim that even blood relations are meaningless. Blood relations are only a consequence/side-effect connected with the implementation detail of your coming into existence. We all had to “arrive” but we couldn’t magically appear out of nowhere, therefore nature chose 2 individuals to come together so you could manifest. Moral of the story is you are on your own, you have come for a reason and you have to pursue your own destiny in this world. You may cherish the relationships you will find around you but never get attached to them because detachment causes misery. Have a lovely weekend.

Too sad! It is not clear from the reports if this was in the city or outskirts. In any case, parents need to be more careful. I don’t know how or why cash could be compensation in the case of child death. No cash can be high enough to assuage the loss of a child.

May be I have lost the plot entirely but what exactly are we celebrating here? Someone is getting honoured for having been born with fairer looks? Happy to be part of a dialog if someone gets into discussion with me on this matter here in this forum. I’ll promise, I’ll be gentle.

But some of the Citizens only know how to gripe and complain. I am installing no Park and other Boards for the safety of Public but road repair contractor removes and throws them away. When I met Personally the Engineer of the area, He receives my complaint and wipes His Butt. Now the time has come that I will be sending the copy of the complaint to PM Modiji’s Office with the Name of these Engineers who are responsible. One Engineer told be harshly to tell the Contractor about this matter. Citizens only know to blame Traffic Police but do not take time to Thank Them. Ungrateful Society.

Suppose some Abdul Kunhi was served Veg Biryani, would it amount to the same level of hurt? Or if some Alwyn D Souza is served idli sambar instead of double omlette and toast? Or if some Nanje Gowda is served anna sambar instead of mudde sambar? So on and si forth. PS: I don’t think vegetarians eat non veg but no veg eaters will not mind veg. Teekh hai na?

Has this guy suddenly become jobless? You might as well go to Nantoor cross and wait for some accident and transfer the unfortunate victims to the hospital. That will give you some credibility. More you go at BJP, higher it grows. Cong I will drop to 40 next time.

  • From Henry James on Gangster Pujari's lawyer to be present during enquiry

This is one case where I would justify extra-judicial. If due process was followed, this bugger would use intimidating tactics so one can testify against him and we will waste crores and years before he will be exonerated and starts his political party.

  • From Henry James on Sonbhadra gold reserve: How did the information spread?

The Capex required to mine a meagre 169 kg of gold is not at all a worthwhile proposition. No private company will step forward when such ventures are fraught with risks. Mining companies are like burning match sticks with only limited shelf life.

may be we should announce moratorium on publishing anything related to Ravi Pujari until we see him on Indian soil. Until then it’s a bloody waste of time speculating on his deportation.
